January 25 - 31, 7.5 hours

This week started with a holiday on Monday in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr., so the office was closed.  Wednesday finally rolled around and I found myself to be the first one of the graphic designers to show up.  The doors to the "bull pen" are typically locked but one door was open slightly so I was able to get in.  They have requested me a key.  I had to walk through the room in the dark because the light switch was by the opposite door.  Of course it was!

The day started with me meeting with Andrea and Jill to discuss what projects I will potentially be involved in.  Jill handled all the scheduling of the incoming projects to the designers and makes sure everyone who needs access to the job has access in Marketing Pilot.  Andrea would like me to come up with some ideas of what to do with the posters in the hallway.  Currently they are displaying a cross section of samples of work the team has designed for the different properties.  One of the ideas tossed around in the past has been something that introduces people to the staff members of marketing department.  We ending the meeting with a plan for me to meet with Jill and learn a little about Marketing Pilot.

Once Jill was situated, we went over the basics of MP and she printed me some instruction sheets to review.  I won't be able to access MP until they have my email and network log in generated and ready for me to use.

My space was ready for me by the time I finished meeting with Jill and Kyle came by to show me around network to where some of the files were located.  That didn't take long so, I spent the rest of the day reviewing the print outs and brainstorming on hallway poster ideas.  I think I have some decent ones, but I am a little terrified to put them all together and pitch them to everyone.

Friday was my second day to work this week due to my aunt's funeral.  I was the first one there in the pit again but this time both doors were locked so I had to get Kyle to let me in.  There was a list of 4 projects on my desk with a print out of all of the projects and their deadlines on my desk.  I spoke with Kirk, one of the designers, about the details of the first project and started to work.  We were all working on various logos for the travel stops.  I was very nervous because my Illustrator skills are not where I want them to be, but I jumped and spent the next couple of hours putting together 3 different logo ideas.  I am very anxious to get some feed back on them from the team.  I am my own worse critic in most cases, but I need to work on getting tougher.  I tend to take constructive criticism very personal and I need to work on that.  Someone saying that might not be the best font doesn't mean they hate me!  It doesn't really mean that does it?

I forgot to refill my ice cup before I left...dang it!
